Room Decor: My Favorite Peices

With college classes starting up in a couple weeks, packing for my new apartment has been my new and favorite priority. Interior decor can be so much more satisfying than styling clothing because you get to "live" in your room each and everyday, filling it with things you love and love to look at. Lately I've been inspired by the delicious hues of coral, light navy, cream, and plum purple, as well as delicate vintage accents and poppy fun patterns. Having recently bought amazing room staples at Ikea and Target, I am ready (and yearning) to divulge in the more frivolous finds for my new crib. It will take awhile, but my "college" home away from home will be one stylish and comfortable get away fit for a queen....or for me at least.

What To Wear: Fashion Intern

The Intern Wardrobe Essentials:

(1) Knit Beret-To fight the strong Manhattan winds and still look cute

(2) Chic Winter Coat- Best if its in a neutral color and has pockets

(3) Leggings- comfortable and easy. Amp it up with leather ones as well

(4) Cropped Blazer- great for layering but not to stuffy when breaking a sweat in the fashion closet!

(5) Gloves- A must have for the infamous intern errand runs around NYC

(6) Cardigan- Light, cozy and perfect for any outfit

(7) Bold Scarf- Make a subtle statement with the go-to winter accessory

(8) Tall Boots- Stay away from heels and go for a cute boot instead

(9) Denim Button-Down- The latest craze in tops; denim is so hot right now!

(10) Medium Bag- Don't oversize since you'll be carrying huge garment bags as well

(11) Tribal Sweater- A trendy piece that makes you feel at home in the big city

(12) Knee High Socks- Perfect for wearing under your boots for function and style

(13) Short Combat Boots- Switch it up and conquer the busy streets in these surprisingly comfortable shoes

(14) A-Line Skirt- Work the ladylike trend in an adorable skirt

(15) Sparkly Sweater- Every girl needs some sparkle in her wardrobe. This is sure to get you noticed!

(16) Day Dress- Layer with tights, a jacket, and fun accessories:)

Best of 2010: Trends

My Shoe

OMG, it's the "Teagan" shoe from Juicy Couture! I never thought in a million years anything would have my unusual name, let alone something this cute. It's like this heel was made for me. It's the perfect height, has an adorable tassel and cut-out detail and comes in my favorite hue of the moment, dove grey. Now if only I could afford the almost $400 price tag...if only:(

Street Style: NYC

Went to the city this past week to see the new Broadway musical, "Promises, Promises". The show was great but the street styles I saw on the way there and back were much more interesting and eye catching. A complete 180 from the cold weather garbs I noted back in March, the Big Apple was blooming with floral prints, sky high wedges, ripped denim, and neutral accessories. It was hard to stop staring in each which way at all the fabulous outfits walking the streets......everything from punk, to classy, to urban chic. Gotta love the big city life!

New Buys: Baltimore Bargains

So I went to the Inner Harbor today for a nice day trip with my mommom and youngest sister, Kira. Of course shopping was on my mind as soon as we got there, especially after I spotted the awesome Urbanoutfitters and The Gallery Shopping Mall across the street. After sightseeing, riding the water taxi and walking around Fell's Point, we finally ended the hot day by indulging in some good old bargain hunting.

First stop was the UO which had a pretty good sale section that included prices as low as 10 bucks (which is decent considering its UO). I spent an hour searching and deliberating until I decided on two items: a lovely 50's inspired swing skirt by Urban Renewal and a rainbow speckled scarf. This all totaled under $20 dollars! Even the saleslady congratulated me on my great finds. So far so good...

Next we went to The Gallery next door, a four story shopping complex. It must have been sales day or something cause every store had major markdowns. So what started out as a quick window shopping venture quickly turned into a serious deal finding adventure. Knowing that I needed more interesting shoes in my wardrobe I got a pair of brown laceup heels from Aldo (which they are shipping to me since my size wasn't in stock), and an amazing pair of LelaRose navy maryjane wedgeels (wedge/heel) from Payless. I even scored a matching LelaRose handbag for only 11 bucks.

So my day was a great success: I had a good time with the family, prevailed after almost getting lost in Baltimore's confusing streets, and made off with awesome buys totaling only 70 dollars! Can't wait to pair these new items with my growing closet:)

Spotlight: Tiffany Glass

This past week in Richmond I visited the "Tiffany: Color and Light" exhibition at the Fine Arts Museum. Now I only thought of Tiffany as the famed jewelery store in Manhattan that was known for their adorable teal boxes and beautiful engagement rings. So I went to into the gallery thinking I was going to see necklaces, rings and bracelets.

But instead I found rooms and rooms of gorgeous glass work. Tiffany & Co started out as Tiffany Glass designed and created by the great artist Louis Comfort Tiffany in the early 20th century. Boy was it amazing to see all the delicate glass bowls, illuminated lamps, and floor to ceiling stained glass windows.

Just the elaborate history and beauty of it all inspired me in so many ways. Hence this post. Using such Tiffany signatures as watercolor, sheerness, light, vibrant color, gold details, flower designs and shiny materials, I created a collage of my favorite pieces.

Summer Buys: 90s

I went shopping Saturday only knowing that I needed more summer things and with no plan besides that. It wasn't until I was home that I realized that everything I bought was 90s inspired. Come to think of that, the stores I went to all had a 90s vibe and I have also noticed this decade's style in recent magazine like Teen Vogue ("Spin City"). And I may be a little ahead of myself, but I have a good feeling that clothing from this era will be a new fashion craze very soon.

I personally love the simple freedom that 90s clothing offers. Examples of such clothing are lace shorts, oversize cropped sweaters, boxy floral dresses, chain bags, hair scrunchies and cute clips, army green, tennis shoes, and denim galore. It wasn't long ago that I was a ten year old growing up in the 90s watching "Boy Meets World" and "Full House", going to the roller skating rink and licking ring pops....so I'm really psyched that these inspirations are all coming back into style. With summer upon us, 90s style is perfect for hanging out with friends and walking the boardwalk. And although tights biker shorts under baggy denim shorts and other 90s pairings may take awhile to hit mainstream fashion, I will standby it and rock these looks all summer long! Who says we can't revisit our childhood ways?

MY LOOK: Winter Photoshoot

My mom's friend is a photographer so he offered to take some pictures of me in my favorite looks. It just snowed the night before so it provided a great backdrop for my bright blue cut-out heels (Steve Madden) and my fur vest outfit. I tried to come up with three different styles: Rocker chic, Comfy yet dressy, and Sophisticated cute. Please feel free to comment:)
