Couture Coverage: spring 2011

VALENTINO

Ethereal whites, pretty pastels, delicate fabrics, bows galore, dewy skin, and braided back updo were showcased in Valentino's couture collection. Traditional yes, breath taking, you bet. Why fix something that isn't broken?
JEAN PAUL GAULTIER

You can expect nothing less than the wow factor from Gaultier, and that's exactly what we got with his new collection. Powerful Mohawks, bold makeup, standout clothing referencing Gothic meets the Iggy pop era, what more could you want?!
ELIE SAAB

You can always tell an Elie Saab masterpiece from it's beautiful details, flowing gowns, and monotone styling. This collection was filled with the prettiest hues of powder pink, light green, baby blue and springtime florals. Simple classic hair/makeup is the perfect touch to this red carpet favorite.
DIOR

The king of knock out couture, Gallino's latest collection ranges from dramatic makeup to volumized skirts, to wild and crazy colors. It's vixen meets 50's fairy princess, and I loved it.
CHANEL

Sticking to the traditional formula of pink, white and black, Chanel's couture runway is classy and oh so cute. Pointy toe flats, pretty ruffles, Paris inspired looks and hair/makeup fit for royalty, this collection has me wanting more not less (like I normally d0).
ARMANI PRIVE

An Armani Prive couture show is always bound to be exciting and futuristic. Sky high geometric pumps, ornate jewelry, shiny saucer hats, dark lips, and sexy structured clothing
strutted down this stand out runway.
ALEXIS MABILLE

Even though Mabille's designs aren't huge and over the top, they are still so beautifully crafted in their own right. I love the gypsy floral prints, princess Rapunzel braided hair and free- flowing frocks. It was light and full of fun!

Award Show Season: Screen Actors Guild 2011

Who: Sarah Hyland; What: Max Mara; Why: Looking young and fresh, Sarah Hyland from Modern Family glows in this simple yet chic dress. She was smart to wear the color of the moment, orange, which looks great with her brunette locks and olive complexion.
Who: Tina Fey; What: Oscar de la Renta; Why: It seems that Ms. 30 Rock herself is finally stepping up her game on the red carpet. She'll wins high points from me any day she's not wearing black, but this red color on her is divine. Simple up swept hair and the perfect accents make this look a home run.

Who: Lea Michelle; What: Oscar de la Renta; Why: It is no shocker that Lea decided to wear her favorite designer, Oscar de la Renta, to the SAGs. When she wore the designer to the Golden Globes it was just ehh ok, but this time she pulls a 180 and looks stunning. Going for a more sexier feel with blown out hair, sultry makeup, and a hip hugging gown, Lea is back on my good list.
Who: Nicole Kidman; What: Nina Ricci: Why: Some may knock her for wearing black on the red carpet, but I think the color looks amazing against her milky skin tone and red hair. I adore the lace detail, the darling cap sleeves, and that standout chunky necklace. Head to toe, Nicole is breath taking.

Who: Rosario Dawson; What: J Mendel; Why: Now this is hue we don't normally see on the red carpet, honeysuckle yellow. I am not usually a big fan of Rosario's style choices but on this occasion I have to hand it to her. I love the mix of colors with the yellow of the dress paired with the green drop earrings and pewter tone heels. It's a smart, simple and sophisticated look that compliments her figure well.
Who: Mila Kunis; What: Alexander McQueen; Why: Mila is by far my best dressed of the night. Wearing the late great legendary designer himself, McQueen, Mila's look is refreshing on a carpet full of monotone outfits. The color is right on trend for spring, the floral pattern whimsical, and the belt is so unexpected but perfect. She can do no wrong in my eyes.

Who: Claire Danes: What: Louis Vuitton: Why: Wearing a designer not usually seen on the award season red carpet, Claire is a knock out once again. The floral print, the lightness of the fabric, and the simplicity of her hair/makeup is just so nice to see. I love how she always changes up her look and seems to pull everything look off wonderfully. And again, the belt is a great last touch.
Who: January Jones; What: Carolina Herrera; Why: Finally! She's actually wearing something that isn't Versace nor skin tight. January Jones shocks in this beautiful and slimming gold/black gown. Some may say she looks rather old in this dress with her retro hair and such, but I think it's a step in the right direction. Anything is better than that red fringe mess of a dress she wore 2 weeks ago.

Who: Hailee Steinfeld; What: Prada; Why: OMG is all I say can about newcomer fashionista Hailee's look. Wearing perhaps the best spring 2011 designer collection, Prada, this young style star is absolute perfection. I love the bright bold trendy hues, the fun stripes, the mermaid skirt, and her simple chic hair. THIS is how young Hollywood should be dressing!
Who: Natalie Portman; Who: Azzaro; Why: I am sure after the mixed reaction of her Golden Globes dress, Natalie will be receiving high remarks for this look. She glows in this ethereal white gown by one of her favorite designers, Azzaro. It accents her growing baby bump perfectly and I just adore the sparkle detail. Her hair is ten times better than last time as well.

Style Star: Mandy Moore

Okay so I have been a huge Mandy Moore fan ever since her role in Princess Diaries (who could forget "stupid cupid"!?) and her pop performance in my favorite dance movie, Center Stage. But now that Mandy has grown up into an accomplished actress, her style has evolved as well. Gone are the days of sequin shirts and bubblegum pink frocks, welcoming in modern ensembles and sweet dresses. Every time Mandy hits the red carpet you can expect a fresh chic look that not only flatters her amazing figure, but showcases her bubbly personality we all fell in love with. My favorite style moments of hers are showcased above. But my top runner by far is the gorgeous black cocktail dress and red satin pumps she wore to the UK Tangled premiere. OMG what a perfect fashion look!

Award Show Season: Golden Globes 2011

PART 2

"Flower Child Award"- Michelle Williams had one of my favorite red carpet styles and in this lovely Valentino gown she doesn't disappoint. I know many people won't like this look saying its too simple, but I think she looks so poised and comfortable. The color is unexpected and the whole outfit works well with her now famous pixie cut.
"Most Chic Award"- Nicole Kidman is with out a doubt one of the most beautiful woman in Hollywood so whatever she wears doesn't really matter. But in this white Prada gown she just looks stunning. I love the bow detail at the waist and how simple yet sophisticated the whole look is. And yay she's a red head again!

"Best Draping Award"- Lea Michelle as we know loves her Oscar de la Renta gowns and this time she sticks to her comfort zone. Yet even still she manages to out do herself. The volume and draping of the skirt, the fun youthful color and her wavy easygoing updo make Lea stand out among a red carpet full of veterans. Good job!
"Best Mom-to-be Award"- First let me say how excited I am that Natalie won Best Actress. She is also a winner when it comes to her red carpet look. Wearing Viktor & Rolf, Natalie glows with beauty. The rose detail accents her growing tummy wonderfully and her Stella McCartney red heels match perfectly. Her hair isn't quite right but that doesn't matter.

"Most Sexy"- Mila Kunis always manages to work every outfit she is wearing. This amazing emerald green gown hugs her petite body wonderfully and goes so well with her dark up swept hair. I am a huge fan of Mila ever since That 70's Show so I am anxious to see what she does next!
"Most Consistent Award"- Mandy Moore has been on a roll lately. This stunning Monique Lhuillier gown does wonders for her body. The color is spot on and I adore the tulle layering around the neck. Simple hair and lovely jewelry complete another beautiful look.

"Most unexpected Award"- Green seems to be the color of choice last night. I usually never like what Catherine Zeta Jones is wearing but she surprised me this time in a jaw dropping Monique Lhuillier volumized ball gown. She looks like royalty and all I can say is wow!
"Most Trendy Award"- Heidi Klum always brings fun and color to every red carpet and in this 70's inspired Marc Jacobs dress, she does just that. Most won't agree with me but I love the fact that her look is so different and playful. Her hair and makeup needs work though.

"Best Sparkle Award"- I think Olivia Wilde's Marchesa dress could be seen from space it's so big and sparkly. But I love it! The dark brown color is so unique and her easy going hair doesn't compete with the boldness of her gown. She could probably fit 10 people under that thing. Way to make a great statement!
"Know What She Likes Award"- Even though Amy Adams always seems to go for this dress shape, I say who cares. She looks absolutely beautiful and the color is perfect for her pale complexion. The laser cut detail of this Marchesa gown is new yet timeless. I just wish she would do something different with her hair.
