Top Trend Setters of 2010

"Vintage Queen"- One half of the sister stylista duo, Ashley Olsen has a wardrobe one would kill for. She always manages to look pulled together underneath all her fabulous vintage and designer duds. Unlike Mary-Kate (who has great style as well), Ashley is much more sophisticated when taking fashion risks.

"Simple Sophisticate"- Already one of my Style Stars, Carey Mulligan is fast on the rise in both her acting career and her red carpet style. She never over complicates what she wears which is something I admire. A fan of Prada and Chanel, Carey keeps it fashion forward and tasteful at the same time.

"True Beauty"- Although Anne works with Rachel Zoe on her fabulous red carpet looks, she makes the clothing all her own. Her lovely personality shines through in whatever she is wearing. I like how she changes her style up and can pull off every look with grace. She has truly blossomed into a style star this year.

"Mix Master"- Rihanna has been a trend setter ever since she hit the big time several years ago. I love that she is unique in her style choices, always surprising us with interesting (in a good way) ensembles. With a voice and charisma like hers, Rihanna can do no wrong in my eyes. I only wish I could pull off her looks half as well as she does!

"Flirty and Flawless"- Zoe Saldana has been on my radar ever since I saw the movie "Centerstage". She is undeniably beautiful and carries that through in her outfits. Her looks are always perfectly styled and they never look the same. She tends to wear stunning leg-revealing frocks, and with her dancer physique, who can blame her?

"City Chic"- Olivia Palermo may not be my favorite reality TV star, but I can't deny that she has amazing fashion sense. Being a NYC socialite and friend of many a designer, Olivia manages to mix high and low priced fashion to create a chic and unique look. Now the face of the clothing retailer, Mango, she continues to be one of my favorite stylistas to watch. Even if I really can't stand her haha.

"Hopeless Romantic"- Keira Knightly is on the top of my list when it comes to actresses. I have watched and loved every movie that she has been in. And like most of the characters she plays, Keira's style is very romantic and whimsical. She tends to wear cutting edge designs that most stars can't pull off. With her British ease and captivating smile, Kiera is a breathe of fresh air on any red carpet.

"Cool Contemporary"- Kate Bosworth is not much known for her acting as she is for her great red carpet and street style. She wears everything from upcoming designers to inexpensive clothing from TopShop. I look forward to seeing what she wears next and I aspire to style my own ensembles as she does. New and always exciting, Kate is one to watch.

"Ladylike"- Eva Mendes may be known for her curves and high profile movie roles, but I notice her for her demure lustworthy wardrobe. She doesn't try to be sexy because she already knows that she is. So by wearing such classy designs as Oscar de la Renta and Dior, Eva leaves a little mystery. I am a huge fan of her full skirted, floral and floor length ballgown looks. She seems to appreciate fashion and brings refinement to an industry that is lacking in that department.

"Shining Star"- Emma Roberts, niece of Julia Roberts, has finally come out of her aunt's shadow with her top notch fashion looks. She wears a lot of sparkly dresses, free flowing gowns and, on her days off, has a edgier street sense of style. Unlike some teenage stars (cough cough Taylor Momsen), Emma is always pulled together. She dresses her age but also makes mature styling choices.

AMA's: Style Awards

"What Happened?! Award: The title says it all. I didn't even recognize Katy Perry at first. Yes her look is very nice, but it doesn't suit her flamboyant personality at all. It's like marriage has sucked the life out of her. There is no color, no shine, no pizazz whatsoever. I mean I usually don't like Katy's crazy style , but at least it stood out. This is just so disappointing.

"Nice But Lacking Award": Like Katy Perry before her, Pink doesn't look like herself. I dislike the grandma colored hair and the lackluster dress. The dress does give her a nice shape and even though it's black, its still too "demure" for Pink. I can't fault her completely because she is trying to conceal her baby bump, but I've seen better maternity gowns than this. I love when she wears such strong rock and roll outfits, and this isn't it.

"Trying Too Hard Award": Don't even get me started on this family. I totally respect Will Smith, but I just think he shouldn't be pushing his daughter into fashion and fame so quickly. Yes her new single is topping every chart, but her looks always scream, "give me attention" not "take me seriously". It's Halloween everyday for this family apparently. Jaden, the most Conservative in this picture, even is way over the top. Jada looks like a mid evil warrior princess and her dress is too tight on her chest. And poor Willow looks like a space alien in pirate boots. Soo wrong overall.

"Best of the Night Awards": Mandy Moore and Whitney Port had my tow favorite looks on the red carpet.Mandy matched her dress with the perfect pair of nude heels, looking simple yet chic. And Whitney looked so regal in his draped dress and great accessories. This is one of the first Whitney looks that I actually like. Even her hair and makeup is perfection. It's kinda funny that the two people can aren't considered "rock stars", rocked the American Music Awards.

"On the Fence Award": I can't decide whether I like this look on Fergie or not. Personally I am not a fan of the dress, but it looks stunning on Fergie's amazing body and suits her personality. I don't like the blue and the black together and I think the sleeves look wrong, but otherwise it's an okay look. Boring shoes though:(

"Almost There Award": Oh man, she was so close! I love this Marchesa mini dress on Miley but the train is just so unnecessary and looks over thought. Her hair looks nice for once and doesn't have crazy unkempt extensions. Overall she looks mature and sophisticated and not like she's trying to be something she's not. Props Miley.

"Right Dress, Wrong Hair Award": I love this sheer applique Elie Saab Haute Couture dress on Rihanna but it's color is too old and dull for my taste. I dislike how she matched her hair with the dress. It seems like she dyed her hair darker, which I am unsure if I like or not. I also can't stand those curls; it's too Dian Ross and Whitney Houston for Rihanna's youthful vibe. Not a perfect look by any means.

"Head Turner Award": Taylor Swift surprised everyone by wearing her hair straight. And I must say that I absolutely love it! She looks so mature and dare I say sexy in this sparkly number. The girl does like shine and silver, and she definitely stood by that tonight. I keep thinking of Taylor as this young teenager and thought it was kinda creepy that she was dating Jake, but in this look, I am kinda alright with that now. Love!

VMAs 2010: The Most Interesting

The Queen

Lady Gaga in Alexander McQueen- Being that IT IS the VMAs and IT IS Lady Gaga, what else can we expect than a pure over-the-top dramatic outfit? I love that she's paying tribute to fashion great McQueen's last collection. While the colors of the gown aren't my favorite and her hair makes no sense with the look, I can't really critique anything else as Gaga redefines fashion in her own terms no matter what. Thanks for keeping it interesting.

On Thin Ice
Katy Perry in Marchesa- The only about this look that I like is the Technicolor stripes in her hair. She looks like an ice skater who decided to tack napkins all over her dress. And those heels look so cheap, like something you'd find at your local DOTS or RUE21. We all know that Katy likes fun and interesting looks, but this doesn't come close at all. If you're going to take a risk, go big.
Princess Ri
Rihanna in tulle and a Jennifer Behr headband- Is it just me or is Rihanna playing it safe? It's a cute look, don't get me wrong, but it feels like something is missing. She wore this while performing with Emenim, but this would be better suited for a red carpet or a Disney star like Miley Cyrus. Even with the gorgeous sparkle and the flaming red hair, Rihanna disappoints.

All the Shines
Audrina Patridge in Isaac Mizrahi (The Bad)- I don't know about you but I am getting pretty sick of Audrina's boring and similar looking outfits. She always wears a tight short tank dress, raccoon makeup, and cheap strappy heels. This look is way too bling-y for my taste and I really dislike that she mixed silver and gold together.
Selena Gomez in Reem Acra (The Good)- At first glance I wasn't sure if I liked this look or not. But after further inspection I realized that it was quite interesting in a good way. I love that Selena decided to wear a long sexy dress (something she doesn't do), and change it up a bit.
The shine of the draped gown with that touch of jewles at the bust is very unique and eye catching. And the fact that she wore matching strappy heels is a plus. I guess our Disney princess is all grown up.

Plumage Problem
Ciara is Givenchy Haute Couture- I am sooo over the feather look. And this outfit is no different. I don't know if you'd even call it a gown because it looks like most of it is missing. And those toe-heavy heels just ruin it for me. It's like she a bird that is shedding its feathers. The only I kind of like is her hair.
In the Bag
Kesha in Home Depot (The Bad)- Yes she really went to Home Depot, bought trash bags and made a dress out of them. But this is Kesha we're talking about. Based on previous looks, this on is as classy as it gets, and that's saying something. She looks like a street walker! I don't get the Rapunzel braid, the cat on her shoulders, or the "I'm too high to care" look on her face. I don't why people find this girl appealing.
Emma Stone in Emilio Pucci (The Good)- Now this is how you do the trash bag look. Use real leather and keep everything else simple. Emma looks so rock-and-roll chic with her fitted mini and electric blue clutch. She always manages to look stylish on the red carpet and she's definitely on my radar.

The Reds
Florence Welch in Givenchy Haute Couture- OMG, I had goosebumps watching Florence perform last night. I absolutely love her music and her sense of style. Her style is retro with a sexy quirky edge which I love. And this Givenchy lace zip-up gown on her is simply stunning.
It is the perfect shade for her skin tone and hair color. LOVE.
Hayley Williams in Miu Miu- She just always gets it right. Hayley knows who she is and I just adore her youthful rock style. Miu Miu has had many red carpet fans this past year and last night Hayley did the brand proud. The nude pumps, the pulled back hair, the black with bursts of color, is just perfection.
